Unsettling Weather

Chard we were saving seed from knocked down by storm

The weekend before last we went to a brunch at a family friend’s house. Everyone is pretty interested in what we’re doing. Then, as what happens at many gatherings, our conversation moved to discuss the weather. Temps were cool and rain was in the forecast.

Rain? In June? What?!

I the last 10 years we’ve had measurable rain in June only three times. But it wasn’t simply “measurable” rain. We’ve had over an inch, something that’s only happened 4 times since 1849 in the month of June.

This morning our heater kicked on.

Yesterday it rained so hard it knocked down our asparagus, cilantro, swiss chard, and the branches on some of our trees. It even flooded slightly in the animal yard. What the hell?
